Working a Stat Holiday? – General Holidays and Pay

Most employees – full-time and part-time – are entitled to general (statutory) holidays with pay.  Alberta’s Employment Standards Code entitles most employees to general holidays and general holiday pay if they’ve worked for an employer for 30 days or more in the 12 months before a general holiday.

An employee is not eligible for holiday pay if the employee:

-Does not work on a general holiday when required or scheduled to do so, or
-Is absent without consent from the employer, on their last regular working day preceding, or first regular working day following, the general holiday.
