Mexico Hotel Review – Paradisus Cancun vs El Dorado Royale
Volunteers of the HolaCalgary team has prepared a comparison of two of the best hotels in the area of Cancun. The Paradisus (@paradisusplaya) and El Dorado Royale by Karisma (@eldoradoresorts) . The two can be booked through “Sunwing”, “Air Transat”, “Air Canada” and “WestJet”, all have direct flights to Cancun and include the hotel in an “All Inclusive Package” or “All Inclusive” You can also reserve it using your RBC “Avion” points, partially or totally.
Cancun is a big city in Yucatan, Mexico, with excellent hotels and restaurants recognized worldwide! If you have already stayed at Cancun, Riviera Maya or Playa del Carmen, you will know that there are endless hotels to choose from, you have to do a lot of research, reading all the pros and cons of each one. A lot depends on what you like, if you stay at the resort all the time or go out once in a while to meet and eat elsewhere. The long beaches of Cancun where you can walk and walk no longer take it for granted since some beaches have been damaged by hurricanes.
Paradisus Cancun Hotel Review
First we visited “Paradisus”, in the hotel zone of Cancun! The Paradisus has several towers and corridors that connect everything, however most of the restaurants are located in the main tower where the hotel lobby is located. There is a Japanese restaurant “Bana” in the center with a lot of vegetation, it is beautiful and the food is very good. There they also offer live music, every night to accompany the dinner!
To be able to take advantage of all the restaurants, you must make your reservations as soon as you arrive as they usually do not have space for several days and you have to plan ahead. There is a restaurant “Tempo” where there is an extra charge, we did not try it since there are enough restaurants in the hotel to have to pay more.
The food is varied, very good in some of the restaurants but not so good in others. In some the service quite slow. The taco restaurant “Blue Agave” leaves much to be desired however the Mexican “Mole” is good! Many offer you a special drink that you only find in that restaurant. The best was the Peruvian-Japanese restaurant “Fuego” and it was one of our favorite restaurants!
Every day there is a show that by the way is very good, around 8:00 PM. The show is in the “Avenue Bar” where there are not many places to sit, so if it does not arrive before 7 PM to move its places, there is no place to sit, maybe there is a place on the floor but it is also full. It is difficult to see it because it has several columns and the bar is not made for this, it is seen that the show was added later but it is not very well planned. Nor do they have an MC that would help give more recognition and support to artists who work so hard to present a good show. Perhaps for the future they can move the show to another place in the hotel so that all those who wish can go and see it.
The “Paradisus” has a section “Royal Service VIP” exclusive, is in the last tower and has its own pool where they guarantee a cabin for two days during their stay. The cabin is reserved with your name without any extra charge, although you can get the cabins for more days without problems, it all depends on how full the hotel is. This section of the hotel has two exclusive restaurants for guests of this section “Royal Service” one is called “La Palapa” next to the pool. They also have a restaurant in the center of the tower where you can have breakfast and have a snack for the rest of the day. It is a mini buffet with a variety of dishes, fruit and pastries. It has a bar and “Nespresso” coffee.
The best thing about the hotel is this section “Royal Service” mainly for the cabins, if you can find a good offer, it’s worth the expense!
El Dorado Royale by Karisma
Hola Calgary went to The El Dorado Royale by Karisma hotel is in the “Riviera Maya” specifically in Puerto Morelos Cancun, “El Dorado Royale by Karisma”. They have a total of 5 hotels:
El Dorado Casitas Royale, El Dorado Maroma, El Dorado Seaside Suites, El Dorado Sensimar Riviera Maya, Generations Riviera Maya.
4 of these hotels are together and you can eat in all the restaurants, which gives you endless options and you do not feel like you have to go anywhere else! Every time you feel that you leave the resort because it is wide and the restaurants are far from each other and each one has its own kitchen. The restaurants are considered “Gourmet Exclusive”.
If you like to walk this is the hotel for you, although they also have the golf carts in case you are tired!
This hotel does not feel like it is locked, between restaurants, pools and shows, there is enough to do! They all have a “personal concierge”, they help you make your reservations in all the restaurants, massages for the Spa, etc.
One of the restaurants possibly the best in our opinion is Fuentes-Culinary Theater where the Chef and main Sommelier will take you for a culinary experience of 5 exquisite dishes, prepared in the theater style front!
The Ceviche in the “JO-JO’s” is a delight that will take you to eat one every day! The Lobby Martini Bar there is music some of the nights, we played an excellent saxophonist! At the Bellini’s Bar in the “Las Casitas” section we met one of the best waitresses of the resort, Yanitzia!
El Dorado Royale, has cabins throughout the area, obviously the cannons near the pools are the first to be set aside, some set aside as early as 6:00 AM! But you can still find many available in other areas of the hotel. The pool that they call “British” since it is calm and without music almost always has cabins available. The main pool has music, shows and activities! We played a water show!
Some of the resort employees still speak Maya!
The resort has a “Greenhouse” area where they plant fruits and vegetables that are used in the hotels, you can take a free tour!
