Covid-19 is creating a “new normal” for life, work, and business around the world.

With more people than ever doing their jobs remotely and economies adjusting to the current reality, many are wondering what our work lives will look like in the coming years.

This is particularly true for countries in the developing world including many in Latin America.

Please join us for a discussion of this topic with three prominent think tanks from Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.

Julia Pomares is Executive Director of the Center for the Implementation of Public Policies for Equity and Growth (CIPPEC) since 2015. During the argentine presidency of the G20, she is also co-chair of the Think 20 (T20) Argentina and of the Task Force on Social Cohesion, Global Governance and the Future of Politics. Previously, Pomares served as Director of the Program of Political Institutions of CIPPEC, where she focused her research on the conditions of political competition, both in terms of access to power and its exercise.

Edna Jaime has been working in Mexican civil society organizations for more than 25 years where she has promoted public policy transformations. She is the founder and general director of México Evalúa, a think tank dedicated to analyzing and evaluating public policies related to public expenditure, security, justice and the fight against corruption. She is part of the Paris Peace Forum Executive Committee and heads the Tecnológico de Monterrey School of Social Sciences and Government’s Council, as well as the Board of Directors of Youth Build México. Moreoever, she is a global fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington D.C and an associate at Comexi (Mexican Council on Foreign Relations). She is also part of Data Cívica (Civic Data)’s Executive Council and of the Transparency Commission of the Nuevo León Council for Strategic Planning.

Luis Fernando Mejía is the Executive Director of Fedesarrollo, the most prestigious think-thank in Colombia and first in Central and South America. He is an economist with BA and MA degrees in Economics from the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá) and an MA degree and PhD studies (ABD) in Economics from the University of Chicago. He was Deputy Minister and Minister of Planning of Colombia in the period 2014-2018. During his tenure, the Ministry led the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda, designed and published long-term policies on green growth and air quality in cities, and provided critical technical support and coordination for the government during Colombia’s successful accession process to the OECD.

Ramiro Albrieu is an Associate Professor of Macroeconomics and Finance at the University of Buenos Aires, and a Principal Researcher at the Centro de Implementación de Políticas Públicas para la Equidad y el Crecimiento (CIPPEC), based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is also the Director of the research program “Natural Resources and Sustainable Development in Latin America” for the South American Network of Empirical Economics (Red Sur), an Associate Researcher at the Centro de Estudios de Estado y Sociedad (CEDES), and an Associate Researcher at the Commitment to Equity Institute, Tulane University, USA. He coordinated the work of the Task Force on the future of work of the T20 under the Argentine presidency of the G20.
