SMLS Public Lecture – Renting Your Home? Residential Tenancies Act
June 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
The Canadian Institute of Resources Law invites you to attend a free public lecture entitled:
“Renting Your Home? Do you Know About the Residential Tenancies Act”
The presentation is intended to provide first-time landlords with basic knowledge about the Alberta Residential Tenancies Act. As the housing market has slowed down in the Calgary area, many homeowners who would have previously sold their properties are deciding to rent them until the market improves. Unfortunately, many of these first time landlords are unaware of their rights and responsibilities under the provincial Residential Tenancies Act. The morning workshop will consist of a presentation that provides an overview of the legislation, highlighting the need to develop a rigorous screening process for potential tenants and to ensure payment of the first month’s rent and the damage deposit before handing over the keys to the tenants. Although the legislation has made some dispute resolution processes easier, it also imposes new requirements that first-time landlords may not have considered. The presentation will end with a Q & A session for registered participants.
Judy Stewart will be the presenter
