Reusable Menstrual Products-The Women’s Centre of Calgary
April 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Social and cultural norms mean menstruation is discussed in the public sphere less often than other topics, yet menstruation-related issues have a number of social and environmental impacts on the lives of women. Many women throw away between 250 to 300 pounds of menstrual products in their lifetime, and the way societies understand menstruation impact women around the world.
Our next Environmental Issues Discussion, Re-usable Menstrual Products, discusses the impacts that a woman’s “period,” can have on both her day-to-day experiences, as well as the impact of periods on the planet!
During the first hour of our discussion, we’ll explore the social and environmental impacts of menstruation. Participants will learn more about the various options for environmentally sustainable menstrual products, as well as discussing the social issues surrounding menstruation, here in Calgary and around the world.
After that, we’ll try a DIY project! Our facilitators will be one hand to demonstrate how to sew your very own menstrual pad. All materials will be provided, and facilitators will be on hand to guide participants through the process. Take home your very own menstrual pad, and connect with other women to discuss all things menstruation!
This is a workshop from The Women’s Centre of Calgary and is for women-identifying individuals 18 and up. There is free child minding available for children ages 19 months-12 years.
