Calgary International Salsa Congress 2020 – POSTPONED
March 26 @ 8:00 pm - March 30 @ 1:00 am
CALGARY INTERNATIONAL SALSA CONGRESS 2020 IS POSTPONED – The health and safety of our community are very important to us. Due to the enormous concern over the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have made the decision to postpone the 13th annual Calgary International Salsa Congress to a later date.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr Deena Hinshaw has just issued the following statement for Albertans on March 12:
“The steps we take now and in the days ahead will help determine the severity of this outbreak for Alberta.
These are extraordinary circumstances, and our public health response must rise to the challenge we face. That is why, effective immediately, we are asking all large gatherings or international events in the province to be cancelled and advising Albertans against travel outside of the country.
By ‘mass gathering’, we mean any gatherings of more than 250 people. This includes large sporting events, conferences and community events. It does not extend to places of worship, grocery stores, airports or shopping centres.
Any event that has more than 50 attendees and expects to have international participants, or involves critical infrastructure staff, seniors, or other high-risk populations should also be cancelled.”

This is an overwhelming, and heartbreaking decision for us. The Calgary International Salsa Congress is an important celebration of our community.
We know the impact that postponing has on so many local businesses, dancers, supporters, and the arts community. We have not taken this decision lightly.
We want to sincerely apologize to everyone. We understand that many of you will not agree with our decision and will be disappointed. We also want to say thank you to the many of you who have called, messaged, and offered your support.
With many details to work out in the coming days, we ask our ticket holders, performers and competitors to please be patient with us as we create a new plan on how to move forward.
At this point, our plan is to reschedule and come back better than ever.
We very much appreciate your support.
Kelly Lannan and Eric Caty
