Calgary Ash Wednesday Services (First day of Lent) 2019 (Miercoles de Ceniza). Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. Ash Wednesday takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday, traditionally been observed by Christians in reflection and focus as a spiritual preparation looking towards Easter.

Ash Wednesday’s focus “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” and to  “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

-What are you supposed to eat on Ash Wednesday?
You can not eat meat on Ash Wednesday, which marks 40 days before Easter and the beginning of Lent. According to the Catholic law of abstinence, Catholics aged 14 and older must refrain from meat on Fridays altogether during this 40-day period, as well as Ash Wednesday.
