The Canadian dollar symbol is $ and the code is CAD

When you move to Canada, the Canadian money and the expenses may be different than what you were used to, Canada is a very large country and the costs vary considerably depending on where you live. When you move to Canada, it is useful to know that you will find Canadian dollars when you get there.

The coins have six denominations. and as in most countries in Latin America each one has a different size, shape and color.

  • nickel = 5¢
  • dime = 10¢
  • quarter = 25¢
  • dólar = $1.00 (llamada “loonie”)
  • dos dólares = $2.00 (llamada “toonie”)

All the bills (banknotes, notes or paper dollars) are the same size, but different colors.

  • $5 – Blue
  • $10 – Purple
  • $20 – Green
  • $50 – Red
  • $100 – Brown
