Calgary Nannies – How to find a Spanish speaking Nanny

Yes, I would love to have the best Spanish nanny in Calgary -nana para mi bebe- so my children can start to learn a second language early in life. Why? because the estimated number of Spanish speakers in the world is growing and just right now there are 437 million people speaking Spanish as a native language. Spanish ranks as the world’s #2 language in terms of how many people speak it as their first language. Spanish is one of the world’s most phonetic languages. If you know how a word is spelled, you can almost always know how it is pronounced.

I know English is the first language you learn living in an English speaking country. Naturally, but also you have to try to teach your children a different language early possibly starting with a Spanish nanny, so they will have an advantage at school, University, jobs, etc.

Some say that they “need” to learn English well first and then introduce another language, that is not the way they do it in other countries, the earlier the better chances of them learning that language. They will always know the language of the country they live in, there should be no fear that “they will not learn English well.” Whether it is the language spoken at home,  spoken in social interactions, or spoken in business negotiations, half of the people in the world speak more than one language every single day.

The world is changing and so the way we educate our children, by giving them the tools they will need to possibly have a better future! Now the question is, how to find the best Spanish speaking nanny in Calgary, AB? I will recommend as the first place to look!

And what happen after my children no longer need a Spanish nanny, how can I keep my child learning Spanish throughout their childhood? There are a number of Spanish Bilingual Schools in Calgary run either by the Calgary Board of Education – CBE Spanish Bilingual Program (K-12) or the Catholic School Centre. Students in kindergarten to Grade 6 divide their time evenly, studying 50 per cent in Spanish and 50 per cent in English. Subjects taught in Spanish are Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Music and Art.

In many instances, to qualify to get into one of these Spanish Immersion Schools or better known as Spanish Bilingual Schools you have to live in the community where the school is but it can change so check with each individual school if this is the case and plan ahead!

A language is a means of communication, that is the main purpose, to be able to communicate. There is no “failure”, just various degrees of success when you can use that language. As an adult, if you are wanting to learn Spanish in Calgary at the same time your child does, there are a number of Spanish Schools in Calgary!

Here are a few tips:

Do not aim for perfection but do expect to work hard to learn another language. Even a small success like being able to buy lunch in Spanish, with bad grammar and not using precisely the right word, is something worth being proud of. How much you learn depends on you, depends on how much time you put into it. If you want to learn Spanish but do not really want to work at it, it will not work, you have to be committed to learn. Your learning naturally adapts to your priorities.

If you were in a foreign country and did not have an option to use English, what would you do? you would carry a dictionary or translator with you and you would do everything necessary to figure out how to say what you needed to say in that language, eventually you would communicate. You would probably make many mistakes along the way, and that’s Ok, it is the only way to get it right. Because we do not live in a Spanish speaking country, the next best thing is to make your own Spanish world and that is exactly what you can do for your child in hiring a Spanish speaking Nanny (Spanish speaking au pair), registering them in a Spanish Day Care or Day Home in Calgary.

There is so much Spanish you already know!
