Calgary Employment Agencies and Job Banks

Calgary employment agencies in Calgary know that finding employment in Calgary is one of the most common problems for those who recently immigrated to Canada. Accreditation, education requirements and job search skills can be very different from one country to another. That’s why immigrant agencies provide support services for newcomers, offer help and workshops for job and job searches, and sometimes offer tutoring for Philippine, Hindi and Latino professionals.

We suggest you visit Calgary Career Hub, meet with a professional consultant to discuss your employment goals and develop a plan to help you find employment as quickly as possible.

Theresa’s Tips: Holiday Networking

Did you know that the holidays are a good time to boost your job search efforts? Networking is vital to access the hidden job market or the 70-80% of positions that aren’t posted to the public. Attending holiday gatherings and events is a great opportunity to build relationships and ask for advice. The first step is to start the conversation:

• How do you know the host/hostess?
• What has been the highlight of your year?
• What plans do you have for next year?

Open-ended questions are inviting and the person asked feels like you’re actually interested in their answer (which you are!) and not just starting up the conversation to be polite. Small talk helps to build rapport, which builds trust and the next thing you know you are chatting away as if you’re old pals. It is much easier to ask for advice once you’ve established a relationship. Don’t forget to ask for contact information so you can schedule a coffee meeting in the New Year.

So say ‘yes’ to that next holiday invite, put on your best ugly Christmas sweater, and have fun connecting with new people!

Theresa's Tips

The thought of networking can cause stress in some job seekers. ‘You mean I have to actually talk to someone…in real life?‘ In a market where it seems everyone is looking for a job, the easier option is to hide behind your computer and apply for every single position that you see through Indeed. But here’s the thing: conversations grow connections, and connections can help you find out information about who is hiring and what it takes to be hired. So consider taking your job search offline, you might be surprised with the results. 😀

Victoria Vicky Driver Well said!

This is such an important message and yet so many refuse to listen to it. Talking about the number of applications you have sent without getting an interview should tell you what you are doing is not effective. It may also mean your resume is too general and that you are not presenting as someone who can deliver what the employer is looking for. The HR person will NOT read between the lines and infer that your previous job duites show you have exceptional skills
